BrickStreets public art projects

In the 4 years since its founding, BrickStreet Arts Association has facilitated the creation and building of two completed public art installations, and the near completion of a third. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

Side by Side
The first BrickStreet Arts project was to commission a piece of public art for Harrison West in Columbus, Ohio. Harrison West residents participated in the fundraising for and installation of the piece. The open design competition resulted in 22 proposals. Residents selected Side by Side, a sculpture created by Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist fellowship recipient Charlotte Lees. The sculpture consists of two 10 foot stainless steel towers featuring motifs that represent the neighborhood. The images of Victorian architecture and children at play speak to the history of the area while alluding to the neighborhood's potential.

Major funding for this project came from the Columbus Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
